    It Runs!!! 11/12/97

12/03/97 – A custom 4 core radiator was put in this week.
    11/12/97 – IT RUNS!!!!
Turned the key, it rolled over a couple times and it runs.

Got the drive shaft in and it fit perfectly. Had to pull the emergency brake handle off the tunnel, the bolt would have hit the drive shaft. We’re going to look for a line lock to use as an emergency brake, if I can find one that will fit.

A ton of information (and many of the custom parts) are from Glenn Towery, Towery Foreign Car, PO Box 354, Cheswold Delaware, 19936, 302-734-1243. Mike Fitzsimmons started the project (see below), Craig Autometrics, Rochester NY, let me keep the car there for a couple years while I cleaned, sandblasted parts and assembled the front end, installed a temporary rear end, put the interior back together.

Mike also designed and setup the rear end, and came up with the use of the Monza rear end. I haven’t heard of anyone else doing this, I’ll find out in another month or so if it is a good idea or not.

Last month the car finally got to the finishing stages and to the point where it needed a good amount of welding and metal fabrication so I enlisted Kurt’s Garage, Rochester NY. Dan Thiel (owner) races a Volvo in the SCCA circuit. His ideas have been a great help in putting the finishing touches on things.

To keep the heat problems from being a bother, the gas lines are run on the outside of the engine compartment and come in through the fender well even with the carburetor. Brake lines are also run as much as possible outside the engine compartment.

There’s a remote oil filter, a mounting place hasn’t been picked yet. The exhaust is stainless steel with the headers made by Mike the Pipe.
