The Spark and Tachometer Stuff

The Spark -

While working on the tach circuits I captured this picture of what the voltage is on the point side of the distributor pointside1.JPG (13594 bytes) Starting at the left side, that’s when the points open. The field in the coil collapses and the voltage shoots up to almost 250V. Then it drops down and goes about 30v negative. It bounces back and forth a while (called ringing) and the settles at about 12V for a bit. Then they close and it drops to 0V, ground level.
